Crowns and Bridges

A crown is essentially a porcelain cap that goes over a tooth. It is used very commonly to help protect weakened tooth structure that is extensively decayed, fractured, or is at high risk for fracture. In some instances, a crown can be used to restore esthetics.

A bridge is very similar to a crown. A bridge not only protects weakened tooth structure but also helps replace a missing tooth or teeth in a short span. It incorporates crowning the adjacent teeth next to a space, which is filled with a pontic (a prosthetic tooth) and is a fixed restoration meaning that it is non-removable.

Our most recent addition to the office is the CEREC from Dentsply Sirona. The CEREC is a three-part system which includes a digital scanner (Primescan), milling machine (Primemill) and oven (SpeedFire). With this new technology, we are able to save you multiple visits since we can make crowns, veneers, bridges, etc same-day and in-office!

It is very important to understand that there is still tooth structure underneath a crown or a bridge. These teeth still need to be diligently brushed and flossed around in order to ensure longevity.
